Spicy Homemade Chai Latte

Better than a cafe, and perfectly spiced to your liking. This recipe creates a chai concentrate you can store in the fridge.

Instructions

For the Chai Concentrate:
  1. In a saucepan, combine water, cinnamon, star anise, cloves, cardamom, peppercorns, and ginger.
  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and add the black tea bags. Let steep for 5 minutes.
  4. Remove the tea bags. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a jar or bowl, discarding the whole spices.
  5. Stir in the maple syrup or honey while the concentrate is still warm. Let cool.
For the Latte:
  1. Combine 1 part chai concentrate with 1 part milk in a mug.
  2. Heat in the microwave or on the stovetop until warm.
  3. If desired, froth the milk before combining for a true latte experience.
