Terroir & Climate
At 283 metres above sea level, Putharjhora Tea Garden sits in the Jalpaiguri foothills, where estates typically experience warm subtropical conditions moderated by seasonal monsoon rainfall. This altitude is characteristic of many Dooars gardens, where lower elevations generally favour vigorous flush production during the growing season.
Estates at this latitude and elevation in northern West Bengal tend to experience a longer growing window than their high-altitude counterparts, with warmer temperatures often encouraging faster leaf development. These conditions typically support the bold, malty character for which low-grown Jalpaiguri black teas are known in the commodity and blending markets.
Tea Produced
Putharjhora produces black tea. Estates in Jalpaiguri at comparable elevations typically yield full-bodied, brisk liquors with malty sweetness and copper-red infusions. These lower-grown teas are generally valued for strength and colour rather than aromatic complexity, making them well-suited to blending and to markets where robust, straightforward character is preferred.

ETP certification indicates that the estate has undergone assessment against standards covering labour rights, health and safety, and responsible pesticide use, and is subject to ongoing monitoring and improvement programmes. For buyers, this provides third-party assurance of baseline social and environmental practices; for workers, it is intended to support safer conditions and grievance mechanisms.
